For months now, rumors about an alleged romance between Kailyn Lowry and Leah Messer have been everywhere on social media.
At first, the speculation was supported by little other than the fact that Lowry and Messer enjoy vacationing together.
But that changed in recent weeks.
For one thing, Jenelle Evans has been posting clickbait articles with unsupported headlines about Leah and Kail’s supposed relationship.
On top of that, Kail enjoys suggesting that she and Leah are more than friends, but her comments are obviously made in jest.
Of course, for a surprisingly large segment of social media users, the concept of sarcasm is a completely foreign one.
As a result, Lowry’s jokes are often taken as genuine proclamations of romantic love for her bestie.
To be fair, Kail seems to truly and deeply love Leah in a purely platonic way.
But there’s nothing scandalous about that, which means fans and gossip sites alike prefer to dissect their every remark for signs of a secret affair.
Take, for example, Kail’s latest tweet about her desire to get married.
"I’m ready to be a wife and be w my best friend forever," Lowry recently tweeted.
If she had just tweeted that she’s ready to get re-married, perhaps her comments wouldn’t have caused such a fuss.
But since the same tweet mentioned her "best friend" many jumped to the conclusion that she was talking about Leah.
To be clear — she wasn’t.
In all likelihood, Lowry simply meant to say that she hopes the person she marries will double as a BFF.
As far as we know — while the two of them are undoubtedly very close — Kail doesn’t even refer to Leah as her best friend.
It seems that title belongs to Becky Hayter.
But as usual, the fans favored the most scandalous interpretation.
Fortunately, there were just as many who showed up simply to offer Kail some words of support:
"Anyone in mind? You deserve it," one follower replied.
"U go gurl , when’s the wedding?" another tweeted.
"You will be happy one day Kail! The ones before were not your happy ending. You deserved it," a third chimed in.
You can say that again.
Kail’s most recent relationship was with Chris Lopez, the father of her youngest son.
And the latest episodes of Teen Mom 2 have revealed that that breakup was even messier than we previously thought:
"We don’t talk. It’s been 8 weeks-ish," she said during a recent installment.
"I threw a baby shower for his best friend and then found out one of the girls he cheated on me with was sitting next to me the entire time and I had no idea," Lowry added.
"She did, and he did, and I sat there and did not find out until the end so I was humiliated."
Yikes. That’s rough.
Maybe a dip in the lady pond is just what Kail needs after all the bad luck she’s had with men.
