Over the course of the past week, it’s often looked as though the tempestuous feud between Meghan Markle and her family was finally coming to a head.

Much of the drama concerned a letter that Meghan had written to her father way back before her May wedding to Prince Harry, but that was only recently obtained by the British tabloid press.

On Sunday, the Daily Mail printed the missive in its entirety, and it shows a side of Meghan that we rarely see.

At formal engagements, the Duchess of Sussex is the picture of decorum — all smiles as she meets with foreign dignitaries or demurely waves to the paparazzi.

In her letter, however, we see the side of Meg she prefers to keep hidden — erudite, yes, but also vulnerable and deeply pained by the actions of her uncaring father.

“Daddy, It is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you’re causing," Meghan begins.

“Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces — not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this.

"Something I will never understand."

Thomas skipped Meghan and Harry’s wedding, claiming that he had suffered a heart attack that prevented him from traveling.

That was later revealed to be a lie, but at the time of the letter, Meghan still believed that Thomas had nearly died — and had never even bothered to inform his daughter of his failing health,

“I have only ever loved, protected, and defended you, offering whatever financial support I could, worrying about your health … and always asking how I could help,” Meghan wrote.

“So the week of the wedding to hear about you having a heart attack through a tabloid was horrifying. I called and texted … I begged you to accept help — we sent someone to your home … and instead of speaking to me to accept this or any help, you stopped answering your phone and chose to only speak to tabloids.”

Learning about major developments in your aging father’s life though tabloid reports is no doubt painful.

But Meghan says the worst part of Thomas’ increasingly cruel actions is that he chose to denigrate Harry in the press just weeks before the wedding,

“To hear about the attacks you’ve made at Harry in [the] press, who was nothing but patient, kind, and understanding with you is perhaps the most painful of all,” she wrote.

At one point, Meghan shares her thoughts on Thomas’ nefarious daughter, Samantha Markle, and in doing so, she confirms what the media has known for months:

The half-sisters never had a real relationship, and Samantha is simply trying to cash in by publicly disparaging Meghan.

"In the letter, manufactured by your other daughter, who I barely know…. You watched me silently suffer at the hand of her vicious lies, I crumbled inside.”

Meg concludes by imploring her father to try and repair their relationship — and if he can’t do that, she’d like him to at least stop sharing false information with the press.

“If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop,” she wrote.

“Please allow us to live our lives in peace. Please stop lying, please stop creating so much pain, please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband.”

Thomas’ response to the letter?

Well, that might be the saddest part of all of this.

“You can hate me if you want,” he said.

“I can’t force you. I made a big mistake … I’m human and I’m sorry! How much longer must I say it?? I wish we could get together and take a photo for the whole world to see. If you and Harry don’t like it? Fake it for one photo.”

Yes, after reading his daughter’s heartfelt plea for compassion, Thomas decided it would be a good time to cash in with a photoshoot.

What a guy.
