R. Kelly’s recording studio in Chicago was swarmed by officials, obviously leaving people to assume an arrest was going down.

We wish, but that was unfortunately not the case.

Instead, a spokesperson of the city tells TMZ that the officials who searched the studio Wednesday found code violations, including that the studio was actually being used as a residence.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that the building is only for industrial use, so for anyone living there it is illegal and NOT ok.

Not only did they find proof of residency, but the R&B singer also reportedly owes a ton of back rent, $166k to be exact.

The officers also found that work inside the space was done without permits. The city will file an amended complaint against R. Kelly for a court hearing.

TMZ was told that police typically accompany the Building Dept. on such matters and apparently did NOT actually go there because they knew it was Kelly’s place.

Kelly is being evicted before the end of the month…and his music can’t stay either!

Meanwhile in Gaga news: A source close to the singer tells TMZ that she is pissed her collab with R. Kelly is still up for sale on Google Play.

Six days ago, Gaga made an announcement on Twitter that she was pulling the collab from iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube as an act of solidarity with the women Kelly allegedly abused.

She says, "she stands behind the women who spoke out in the docuseries Surviving R Kelly, and feels strongly that their voice should be heard and taken seriously."

Gaga was under the impression that everything was taken down, but somehow Google Play missed the memo.

As of now, you can still purchase the song "Do What U Want (With My Body)" which features Kelly for $1.29. So, get it while it lasts!

Just kidding. Do not purchase that song.

Universal Music is "working on taking this down now," according to TMZ.

Other celebrities also followed the popstar’s footsteps and Kelly’s music is dropping like flies! Including Celine Dion, Chance the Rapper and the Pussycat Dolls.

Now only if Google Play could get it together so we can erase him all at once!

Gaga’s apology and (almost) full removal of her and Kelly’s song comes six weeks before the Oscars, which Gaga will likely walk into with multiple nominations.
