The details behind this devastating piece of news have prompted Gao’s passing to be picked up by many mainstream outs, as he actually died while filming the Chinese reality game show Chase Me.

"In the early hours of Nov. 27, our beloved Godfrey collapsed while filming on set. Unfortunately following three hours of medical rescue efforts, he left us," a spokesperson for the actor’s management team said in a statement, adding:

"We are very shocked and saddened and even until now find it impossible to accept."

This statement concluded as follows…

Thank you media friends and every fan of Godfrey’s for their concern. His management and team were present and his family were urgently rushed to the location.

Please respect Godfrey’s family in this time of sorrow and refrain from disturbing them.

We will accompany Godfrey’s family to handle discreet funeral arrangements.

Thank you, everyone.

BBC reports that Gao collapsed while running in a team event for the aforementioned program, which pairs celebrities, cast members and regular people together to compete in a series of physical tasks.

Chinese reality shows are known for placing contestants in rather unique, and sometimes dangerous, situations.

In 2011, Gao became the first Asian model for the Louis Vuitton. He made his American feature film debut two years later in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Gao’s most recent big screen appearance came in the sci-fi action film Shanghai Fortress, which hit theaters in China in August.

A representative from Chase Me told BBC that the show’s on-site paramedics immediately started administering life-saving measures before rushing Gao to the hospital.

At of this writing, it remains unclear what caused the actor’s sudden passing.

We send our condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

May Godfrey Gao rest in peace.
