Game of Thrones may have sky-rocketed to global popularity due in part to its penchant for blood, gore, sex, violence and suspense.
But the biggest surprise of the Game of Thrones finale may have been how the writers tossed all these aspects of the series aside and instead focused on…
… a lot of very boring talking.
That was our main takeaway from a pretty awful final episode.
We explained why we believed this to be the case HERE , but now we’re back with a different take on Season 8 Episode 6.
We’re here to ask a handful of questions about what we just witnessed, from character motivations to confusing plot points and everything in between…
That’s All It Took to Kill Cersei and Jaime? A single layer of bricks? Sort of seems like they could have recovered from that sort of blow — or moved a few feet to the left and have avoided the entire avalanche!
What Happened After Jon Killed Dany? Just literally: What happened? Drogon (more on him momentarily) flew away with Dany’s corpse… so did Jon confess to the Unsullied? Did they find him crying over what he had just done? Did he run out and confess? How the heck did the show decide NOT to include this very practical and necessary detail?
And Then What Happened? Greyworm almost killed Jon for touching his arm and trying to stop him from killing Cersei’s soldiers early in the episode. In what universe do the Unsullied not kill Jon the nanosecond they learn he’s murdered their queen?
Instead, They… … contact the Lords and Ladies of Westeros and ask them to pay King’s Landing a visit after they decide to simply imprison Jon for his Queen killing?!?!?
Did Drogon think the Pointy Chair killed His Mom? Or Was He Keenly Aware of the Dangers of a Monarchy and Just Really Adept at Identifying Physical Symbolism? Gotta be one or the other, right?
Why the Eff Did Anyone Listen to Tyrion? The guy just spent the past several months strongly advocating to Dany; to such an extent that he basically sentenced his best friend to death because Varys disagreed. And now everyone is just totally on board with his Bran-for-King recommendation? Could Tyrion possibly just be a bad judge of character?
What… Was… That… Scene? All the Edmure Tully scenes out there must have been psyched. But it legit felt like Benioff and Weiss were trolling viewers not just be selecting Bran — but by having it done in the most boring, random, non-exciting manner possible; one that involved numerous characters no one had seen in years!
No One Felt a Need to Maybe Sleep on This Decision? Everyone in the Great Council gave Bran AND this huge change to their ruling system the thumbs-up in less time than it took Jon to say goodbye to Ghost a few weeks ago.
Also: BRAN?!?!? We have about 47 questions in one here: How, exactly, does Bran have a better “story” than Sansa, who overcome a number of personal tragedies to rise to power in the North… or Arya, who literally just saved the entire world? Didn’t Bran just tell Tyrion a few weeks ago that he doesn’t “want” anymore in response to being Lord of Winterfell? And now he’s all, “Yo, I wheeled all the way out here just to be placed in ultimate charge?” We mean, if he even human? What in the actual Hell?
But Didn’t George R.R. Martin Tell the Show Bran Was Going to Win in the Books? Probably, which simply raises two more questions: Why not develop him more over this final season? The guy truly just sat there and did absolutely nothing. And also: Why go with this weird “best story” rationale? Why not say Bran is the most innocent among the options? The least corrupt? Or, you know, can see the f-ckin future?!?
Why is There Still a Night’s Watch? Who are they watching, exactly?
Why Did Brienne Honor Jaime? Why did the show have them sleep together is the real question? Why couldn’t their relationship have remained one of extreme mutal respect?
Why is Bronn a Member of the Small Council? He’s a fan favorite and a fun character, but has also been defined his entire time by his ever-selfish actions and motivations.
Who Wrote That Small Council Scene?!? It felt straight out of some canceled CBS sitcom. The very last words ever spoken on Game of Thrones were about bringing a “jackass” to a “brothel.”
Bran the Broken?!? Maybe rethink this semi-insulting, not-very-inspiring nickname, everyone.
Why Did Benioff and Weiss Insist on Just Six Final Season Episodes? So they could hurry off and write the next Star Wars movie? Just a very strange decision for a show HBO obviously wanted to run forever and which clearly needed a few more weeks to let storylines breathe and characters simply make more sense with their actions.
How Did Robin Arryn Get So Hawt? Also, we’re sure many viewers are asking of a character involved in the show’s most crucial scene, who is Robin Arryn?
When Did Sam Find Time to Invent Plastic? Maybe when Dany was off making a Starbucks run.
