This Is Us is going to make you cry upon its return this fall.

That much is simply a given.

But the promo for This Is Us Season 3 teased here makes it rather apparent that you’ll also be gasping out loud when the beloved drama returns this fall.

That’s what happens when the "biggest surprises" yet are on tap.

The intriguing sneak peek opens with voiceovers, including the doctor telling Mandy Moore’sRebecca, "Mrs. Pearson your husband has died," along with Milo Ventimiglia’s Jack saying:

"I want my kids to be okay. I want my family to be okay."

We also once again see Jack emerging from the house fire that eventually took his life.

As for new Footage from the upcoming season?

There’s a glimpse of The Big Three’s 38th birthday cake, as Randall (Sterling K. Brown) dances into a party… Kate (Chrissy Metz) wishes for a baby… and Toby responds to this latter statement in total shock.

Those who have been reading up on This Is Us and what to expect are likely aware that Jack’s past and how his relationship with Rebecca began will be explored this fall, winter and spring on the show.

Perhaps our favorite part of this teaser is when he sees Rebecca singing on stage and says the following to Miguel.

"I met the girl."

"You met a girl?" Miguel asks.

"No. The girl," Jack emphasizes.

The trailer wraps up with a shot of Jack and Rebecca kissing in a car as a voiceover reminds viewers that the show was nominated for eight Emmys this year.

It returns with new episodes on September 25 at 8/7c — and this is what Ventimiglia says series creator Dan Fogelman told him about where his character’s story is headed:

“What he laid out for me — I didn’t see it coming. I really didn’t see it coming.

"And I had a pretty good understanding of what it was going to be.

"As he was unfolding the story — and Isaac [Aptaker, the series’ co-showunner] was there, and they were explaining everything – I went, ‘Oh. Holy sh-t. Holy sh-t. Holy shit!’

"There is a lot to Jack’s history that shapes who he ultimately becomes.”
