13 TV Shows That Alienated Their Fan Base By Author pauldailly at Aug 12, 2019 • Category TV Some TV shows manage to keep fans happy for the entire time they are on the air. Others, not so much. These 13 TV shows rubbed the fans the wrong way on more than one occasion. It probably explains why most of them are no longer on the air. The Walking Dead1The Negan storyline was a big deal. The moment it was teased that this comic book character was making his entrance into the TV iteration, everyone seemed excited … until he started killing off series regulars. Killing off Glen and Abraham on the Season 7 premiere in brutal fashion resulted in several complaints about the series. It never recovered in the ratings. Arrow2Oliver and Felicity broke up at least twice per season. The reasons for why got more ludicrous as the years went on, but still, many fans stopped watching the show in protest at just how many times this couple’s relationship was used to advance a series that was supposed to be about a superhero. Empire3When Empire arrived on the scene, it was bursting with the soapy goodness that TV viewers had been craving since Desperate Housewives went off the air. The show was an immediate hit for Fox, but the producers thought it would be a good idea to bring in several celebrities for guest appearances, and it took away from the escapism that the show was offering viewers. The ratings took a huge hit as viewers complained about the stunt casting. The 1004The 100 was going from strength to strength until about halfway through its third season. The powers that be thought it would be rad to kill Lexa off … just as she and Clarke solidified their relationship. It did not go down well. The Vampire Diaries5Elena will always be remembered as one of the most crucial characters on The Vampire Diaries — even if Nina Dobrev quit two years ahead of the final season. The show was not the same without her, and the ratings circled the drain. It would have been better to just end the show in a strong way after the sixth season. Game of Thrones6(HBO)For a show that will be remembered for decades after its finale, you would think the creative forces would have been able to craft a coherent final season. Instead, it was drivel, prompting fans to launch a petition to get the final season remade. It has clocked almost 1.8 million signatures. Wowza. Once Upon a Time7Once Upon a Time was slipping in the ratings during its third season, but the Frozen arc during the fourth season sent ratings to dizzying heights. Following the conclusion of that plot, however, the tedious storylines that focused on our heroes losing their memory returned. Despite dwindling in the ratings it survived for a few more seasons. Castle8At one point, Castle was the crown jewel in ABC’s line-up. But the powers that be thought it would be a good idea to drive a wedge between Beckett and Castle, while also making it seem like Castle was killed off on the way to his wedding. The show didn’t last for much longer after that. Revenge9Emily Thorn/Amanda Clarke’s mission to get revenge on all the people who wronged her father dragged on for dear life. The initiative storyline in Season 2 was the most laughable plot twist of all. Prison Break10It would have been the perfect one-season limited series, but it lasted four seasons, before being revived for one more. It was … a mess. The fundamental issue with the series is that after breaking out at the end of Season 1, there was no more plot. Nothing was appealing about the show, and the rating started sliding. Gilmore Girls 11This show was such a hoot that even the not-so-great final season was given a pass … until the silly revival that featured four movies, questionable plot choices, among other things. Glee12It’s hard to imagine that the same people who made American Horror Story made Glee. Glee was a fun comedy in its earlier years but kept rehashing the same plots after its second season. Fear the Walking Dead13This zombie drama was widely recognized as a cut above The Walking Dead. The reason for that was that it focused on a mother and her two children trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. However, the show changed showrunners and the mother and son, and most other characters were killed off. It became a haven for less popular The Walking Dead characters.
