Well, the day so many Teen Mom 2 fans have been waiting for may have finally arrived.
After weeks of rumors and years of alienating viewers, it’s beginning to look as though MTV and Viacom have reached the decision to fire Jenelle Evans from the show that made her famous.
Jenelle’s husband, David Eason, was fired last month, and just as Evans’ army of haters was beginning to use hope that the Carolina Hurricane would also be kicked to the curb, Jenelle started dropping hints that she will not be returning for another season.
Join us for a complete rundown of recent developments in the life of the (probably) newly-unemployed Ms. Evans:
Come At Me, Fans! (Getty) For years, Jenelle has been wilfully antagonizing Teen Mom 2 fans. But at the end of the day, she was good for ratings, and as such, producers kept her around. With her latest scandals, however, Jenelle may have finally gone too far.
The Night of the Gun It all started when David Eason posted this photo on Instagram. It appeared on his page just after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida that claimed 17 lives. Fans implored David to take it down – and that’s when things got even uglier.
Hateful Dave David responded to criticism from fans by going on a homophobic tirade and hurling slurs at followers who dared to suggest it might not be the right time for such a post. Needless to say, that didn’t turn out well for him.
A Brief Experiment With Employment Like most Teen Mom baby daddies, Dave wasn’t exactly a top earner before he landed a spot on the show, and now it’s back to the unemployment line. But hey, at least he’ll have company.
Trimming the Fat These days, it seems Teen Mom producers are done tolerating diva behavior and are all too aware that there are no indispensable stars on ensemble reality shows. In the past two months, they’ve canned Farrah Abraham and David Eason. And now it looks as though Jenelle’s days as a ratings magnet have come to a close…
Farewell, Jenelle Jenelle’s drug use, violent behavior, and apparent neglect of her children have long made her an object of scorn amongst Teen Mom fans. Petitions to have her fired from the show have even been circulated by her own co-stars. And now it looks as though the public will finally get its wish…
The Hand That Feeds Her The Teen Mom 2 producers and camera crew that film Jenelle and her family have reportedly pulled up stakes and left North Carolina well ahead of schedule. Needless to say, that’s not a good sign for Jenelle’s future on the show.
What’s Next? Jenelle will apparently be featured in at least the first half of the show’s next season. After that, her future appears uncertain.
Worth the Hassle? Many wondered how producers would go about continuing to feature Jenelle on the show without ever allowing David on camera. Given that Jenelle isn’t exactly a fan favorite these days, it seems they may have decided it was simply easier to give her the axe as well.
Bad News For the Hurricane (Getty Images) “It seems like MTV is done filming with Jenelle for the season,” an insider told Radar. “They have enough footage of Jenelle for this season. Her status for another season is what they’re discussing now, if they’ll fire her from the next one.”
End of an Era “Jenelle’s filming is not happening right now and it may not happen for the rest of the season,” the insider adds.
No More #TeenMom2 Jenelle recently removed any mention of Teen Mom 2 from her Instagram bio. Probably not a good sign in terms of her future on the show.
But Was She Fired? Some fans think Jenelle may have quit the series, and it seems likely she’ll make that claim once it’s revealed that she won’t be returning. But that seems unlikely for a number of reasons…
Picking Up the Pieces For one thing, Jenelle did her best to make amends in the wake of David’s shockingly bigoted remarks. Obviously, it was a futile effort.
Lamest. Apology. Ever! “David didn’t understand how offensive people would get or how Twitter even works,” Jenelle tweeted last month. “Now that he realizes his voice is very strong within media/tabloids he has deactivated his account. He agrees he will keep his comments to himself from now on.”
“We Totally Know Gay People!” “David doesn’t hate people from the LGBT community,” Jenelle continued. “My old manager was gay and used to be one of me and Davids close friends. We attended Farrah Abraham’s birthday in Miami with a lot of LGBT people there and he didn’t act in any type of way. We went had a good time and left.”
Too Little, Too Late Obviously, Jenelle’s remarks belong in the Awful Public Apologies Hall of Fame, and fans aren’t qute buying that David doesn’t know how Twitter works or that he isn’t a bigot because he partied with gay people once. In all likelihood, Jenelle’s lame response just made her boss’ decision easier.
Employers…Aren’t Exactly Lining Up (Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images) Another reason fans don’t believe that Jenelle left the show voluntarily is the fact that she doesn’t seem to have much lined up in terms of career prospects. She makes good money, but not “never work again” money, and because of her unpopularity with fans, her attempts at side projects and endorsement deals have proven largely unsuccessful. When all is said and done, things are looking pretty bleak for Jenelle for one main reason…
Divisive Past = A Destitute Future Jenelle is virtually untouchable to employers because of how much of her abhorrent behavior has been documented by MTV camera crews over the years. It’s anyone’s guess as to how she’ll raise three children once those TM2 checks dry up, but she better figure out something fast.
