As you’ve likely heard by now, Jenelle Evans was fired from Teen Mom 2 after her husband, David Eason, shot and killed the family dog in a fit of rage.
The loss of her job was overshadowed by the ensuing deluge of drama which included Jenelle losing custody of her kids .
But while the dissolution of her family might be more devastating than the destruction of her career, it’s hard to overstate how much Evans’ life changed when MTV handed down its decision and booted her off of the show that made her famous.
It always sucks to get fired, but it’s a particularly painful blow in the case of Jenelle, who was making a LOT of money on TM2.
Thanks to newly-released court documents, we finally know exactly how much Evans was being paid, and now we almost feel bad for her. Almost.
Here’s what we know about her past and current financial situations:
Sad Facts (MTV) “Teen Mom 2 cast member” is the only job Jenelle has ever had. Now, at 27 she finds herself unemployed — and possibly unemployable.
Smiling No More Jenelle was handsomely compensated for her time on the show, but it’s not like she was raking in “never work again” money.
Deadbeat Dave Evans’ husband, David Eason, was recently sued for back child support, and the legal battle helped shine a light on the Eason’s financial situation.
What a Guy David allegedly fell several months behind in his payments, eventually racking up a $4,100 debt to Olivia Leedham, the mother of his son.
That’s Not How It Works David has no custody or visitation rights with regard to his son, so maybe he thought he doesn’t have to keep making payments?
Better Days Anyway, the case was settled back when Jenelle and David were still employed, so it was fairly easy for David to come up with the cash.
Strong Motivation The judge threatened him with jail time and gave him 2 hours to write a check to his ex. Apparently, that’s what it takes for David to take care of his kids.
Hard Times Ahead Anyway, Radar Online recently obtained some court documents pertaining to the case. And they shed a lot of light on how life has changed for the Easons in the past month.
Vague Statement In both 2017 and 2018, David was paid between $60,000 and $120,000.
Big Difference Obviously, that’s quite a gap, but our best attempt at making sense of David’s finances is as follows:
Major Boost The $60,000 is most likely his salary for his first season on the show. Once he and Jenelle got serious, he probably received a major raise, bringing him to the $120,000 range.
Easy Come, Easy Go That situation didn’t last long, of course, as David was fired from the show in 2018 for hurling bigoted slurs at fans on social media.
Kept Man Fortunately, David still has Jenelle to take care of him, right? Well, not so much …
No Income Coming In (MTV) Jenelle was fired from the show in May after she decided to stick by David’s side despite the violent and abusive behavior he had demonstrated.
The Big Bucks (Getty) And it’s a shame, because Jenelle was raking in the cash during her final season on Teen Mom 2.
Warning: This Might Make You Very Angry According to court filings, Jenelle’s 2018 salary from MTV was a whopping $400,000.
Side Hustles Add to that the money that Jenelle was making from endorsement deals and sponsored content, and it’s easy to see how she and David were able to afford so much land.
Dropped Like a Hot Rock These days, Jenelle is viewed as deeply toxic by most advertisers, and companies such as the clothing brand PatPat were quick to cut ties with Evans after being alerted to her behavior.
JE Cosmetics For years, Jenelle has been teasing the release of her JE Cosmetics makeup line, but frankly, we’ll believe that one when we see it.
Best Case Scenario Even if the line were to see the light of day, at this point, Jenelle is so widely despised we can’t imagine her products flying off the shelves.
Back to the Drawing Board No doubt Jenelle and David are currently hard at work thinking of ways to avoid work — and they’ll probably live comfortably for a few months off of paid interviews.
Perish the Thought! But eventually, interest in their downward spiral will die off, and at least one of these two will have to get a real job!
