Well, that’s one way to tell someone they’re about to be a father.

On Nashville Season 3 Episode 5, Juliette couldn’t hide her pregnancy for much longer. Her tour outfits were too tight and she just wanted to lie on the couch all day, but Emily kept reminding her boss that Avery has a right to know about his child.

So Juliette texted him the news. Just like that.

He received the life-changing message while doing community service on the side of the highway and then screamed about it outside Juliette’s movie set trailer after she wouldn’t let him in.

Glenn, meanwhile, returned and dressed down Avery (with Juliette looking on in horror), telling the young man:

"Juliette was raised in chaos. There’s no way I’m gonna let the same thing happen to her child."

Noah later assures Juliette that her secret is safe with him – and then also makes it obvious that he’s into her.

Later that same night, Juliette has difficulty breathing. She staggers off stage during the concert and Zoey takes over with the last verse of “Tell That Devil.” She slays it.

Due to Jeff’s pushing, Will asks his trainer to sign a non-disclosure agreement. This prompts a fight over their relationship (is it about sex or more than just sex?) and it also leads to Mr. Lexington getting beat up by some gay haters in a park.

Deacon is then at the hotel when Will arrives and pieces together that Lexington is gay. He tells Will he’s there if he wants to talk.

Back in Nashville, Layla wants Jeff to take her album more seriously. Could she even write some songs for it? No, he tells her. Just shut up already. So Layla cries, looks at the pills in her vanity and breaks a mirror.

On to Gunnar: we learn his ex, Kiley, has a nearly 10-year old son who must be Gunnar’s child. Gunnar begs her to tell him the truth about the boy. He cries over how he has no family left.

But Kiley mostly just responds by acting all nervous and mysterious.

Finally, Rayna and Luke bring their children to a commercial shoot. It doesn’t go well, especially when Daphne tells Rayna that she sucks. Once all of the hurt feelings and suspicions of parental inadequacy are addressed, the gang goes bowling. Naturally.

The next night, before a show, Rayna bawls over how she’s lost touch with her daughters (Maddie now has highlights?!?), but is able to pull herself together and take the stage when the time arises. This is why she’s the First Lady of Country Music.
