Last night, after exhibiting erratic behavior at a series of concerts, Kanye West was hospitalized for what was originally described to the press as symptoms relating to exhaustion.

In the hours since, it’s become evident that the rapper’s hospitalization was the result of a mental and emotional breakdown, which required West to be restrained and rushed to a nearby psychiatric facility.

Now, new details about the situation are emerging, and it seems Kanye’s situation may be even more dire than initially thought.

According to TMZ, EMTs rushed to the scene after receiving a call from Kanye’s personal physician, Dr. Michael Farzam.

In order to protect West’s privacy, Farzam used an alias for his patient, describing Kanye as:

"Jim Jones, 39 years old, 5’8", 175 lbs," and informing that he "suffers from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration."

Farzam reportedly told the 911 dispatcher that Kanye was not currently exhibiting any violent behavior, but was likely become violent once authorities arrived.

At one point, presumably after the call was placed, Kanye allegedly assaulted an employee of the gym where he was training when he suffered his breakdown.

He was eventually handcuffed to a stretcher to the psychiatric ward of UCLA Medical Center to be evaluated.

Dr. Farzam reportedly informed police that he had placed Kanye on a 5150 psychiatric hold, but there’s some disagreement over whether or not he actually took the steps necessary in order to put such a hold in place.

Kim Kardashian rushed to be by Kanye’s side, canceling her much-anticipated first public appearance after being robbed at gunpoint in Paris.

In the days leading up to his hospitalization, Kanye canceled his current tour, citing exhaustion.

The news was less than shocking, as West had been exhibiting bizarre behavior, often abruptly storming off stage after going on troubling rants and performing only a few songs.

West has yet to speak on the assault allegations, but his mother-in-law Kris Jenner spoke on his behalf during a recent interview with Extra.

“He’s exhausted, he’s just really tired," Jenner told the show.

"He’s had a grueling tour and it’s been a grind so he just needs some rest.”

Our thoughts go out to Kanye and his family, and we hope the rapper receives the help that he needs.

We’ll have further details on this story as more information becomes available.
