For once, IHOP is not here to give you an immediate heart attack from a menu that occasionally mixes in some breakfast food underneath gobs of whipped cream and chocolate.
Instead, IHOP is here to rock your world.
The long-running franchise has announced on Twitter that it is changing its name to IHOb on June 11, stunning Internet users and causing them two ask two basic questions:
What does the b stand for?
What the heck is wrong with you, IHOP?!?!?
The restaurant says it won’t answer that first question for a few days, while social media folks continue to ask the second one.
Scroll down for a look at IHOP’s shocking Tweet, the poll it is running in relation to it — and to read what people are saying about this impending change.
(UPDATE: Scroll to the end of this gallery to find out what IHOb actually stands for!)
This is Happening, People All this uproar started after a single Tweet from the official IHOP account, which has 320,000 followers.
So… What Will It Be? Biscuits? Bacon? Butternut Squad? Barnacles? Will the “B” stand for any of these things?
Burritos, Definitely! We doubt this is it, but we would absolutely eat at the International House of Burritos.
Gotta Be Burgers, Right? Go run and hide, Five Guys. You’ve got some major competition coming… some people think.
No Way: It’s Bacon! Bacon may be the most universally beloved foot on the planet, this much is true.
This is a Bad Idea It doesn’t matter if you love burgers or bacon, this is just a dumb example of re-branding… some are saying.
Batience is Not a Virtue Is it June 11 yet?!? Because this “B” theme is already getting extremely old.
Blease Stop Bretty, bretty blease. Darn it, now we’re doing it, too!
DiGiorno Chimes In! We must say: we have soft spot for when brands and/or companies talk trash about each other or joke around with each other on social media.
Arabs are Very Happy About This Change We’re scared to make a joke here of any kind. This just appears to be a fact online.
A Quick History Lesson: This chain was started by Al and Jerry Lapin. The International House of Pancakes opened in 1958, just outside of Los Angeles. In 1973, the company chose to shorten the name to IHOP.
There’s Only One Answer, By the Way It’s “Breakfast.” It’s going to be the International House of Breakfast.
Unless… … might the “B” potentially stand for “Bariatric surgery.” Because this is an actual photo of an actual menu item at this place. They should have ambulances at the ready in every IHOP parking lot. Seriously.
We Have the Answer! We’re now writing this update on June 11 and the chain has revealed that the “b” really does stand for burgers. Shocker!
HOWEVER… We’ve been duped because it’s not really a NAME change, more like a theme change. “We are definitely going to be IHOP,” Darren Rebelez, president of IHOP, told CNNMoney. “But we want to convey that we are taking our burgers as seriously as our pancakes.”
So This Was All Pretty Lame, Huh? Yup. As you can see above, at least one location in Hollywood is actually getting a sign that reads “IHOb.” But a vast majority of the 1,800 locations nationwide will still be known as IHOP.
Okay. So How Does Twitter Feel About This Reveal? Not. Good.
LeBron Really Hates It His face says it all here, doesn’t it?
Would This Have Been So Difficult?!? People love brunch. They can day drink during it without getting judged.
